She Says… March of Dimes and imbornto

Every baby is born to do something great. – imbornto

You’ve probably heard of March of Dimes. It is the #1 recognized major health charity by moms and the #2 recognized major health charity by women in general. If you’ve had a baby, you probably received pamphlets from them on prenatal nutrition and the importance of exercise during your pregnancy. The organization was founded in 1938 by FDR to eradicate polio. Since accomplishing that goal, it has grown into the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide and through its premier event, March for Babies, March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Currently the organization is funding research on some issues near and dear to my own heart and family, such as developing a treatment for RSV, which is the respiratory infection that began all of Owen’s asthmatic issues; in addition to other topics, such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes and preterm labor — all incredibly important for women and babies everywhere. In short, they do awesome, relevant work that has already impacted every one of us.

I know we’re all inundated with requests for money ALL THE TIME. And while I personally do give to March of Dimes directly, I also totally dig their new campaign that is being launched right now, imbornto, that makes it super easy to help the organization without ever taking out your checkbook. The first annual campaign’s goal is to increase awareness about March of Dimes’ mission and to widen its relevance to a greater number of individuals as well as raise money for the organization’s vital research and programs.

Here’s the best part. You can “donate” to the campaign by doing things you’re already doing. Like shopping. And eating.

From now to mid-June (to incorporate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day) every year, starting in 2012, corporate partners will donate money to March of Dimes every time you shop at their store or buy their product online. Just shop, dine or donate at locations where you see the March of Dimes and imbornto logos.

Information about the companies supporting the campaign can be found at www.imbornto.com.  Additionally, donations can be made through that site as well.

My favorite ways to support imbornto?

  • Use the RealSimple Gift Guide app to find gifts under $50 (or let your significant other know about the app just in time for Mother’s Day!). Purchases
  • Sign up for The Honest Company‘s (Jessica Alba’s baby product company) monthly deliveries anytime between now and June 15th
  • Get Mother’s Day flowers from ProFlowers

I support babies and you can too!

I know this post was a slight departure from my normal blog all about Owen, but March of Dimes and the imbornto campaign is a cause I totally believe in. I wasn’t compensated in any way for writing this post; I just want to spread the word about how easy it is to get involved. Need more info? Shoot me an email or leave a comment. Want to share the information on your blog, Facebook or Twitter? Do it! Spread the word.
