She Says… Catching Up

Despite how it may have looked, we didn’t fall off the face of the planet 🙂 Rather, we spent last week totally unplugged from our phones and computers and totally plugged in to face-to-face family time. I always feel funny when the entire internet knows that we’re traveling, so instead of telling you all we were going away and taking the week off from pretty much everything other than eating, drinking and laughing together, I opted not to say anything at all.

It was definitely the first real vacation from blogging that I’ve ever taken since I started this blog in early 2009. It came at the perfect time, as I was beginning to feel a little overwhelmed with all that was on my plate. And while it certainly served the purpose of giving me a little break, I also realized how GREAT it felt to be completely free from social media and technology and updating the world on mundane details.

Owen, Benjamin and I flew down to the Philly/Delaware area to stay with my older sister in her new house (she just moved in 4 days before we got there!). All three of my siblings were there, along with Owen’s three cousins and my mom. We rarely have extended time together since I live so far away, and we had a blast.

The flights were super easy. Quick and painless. And Owen spent most of the time playing with the magazines in the seat back pocket on the plane. He charmed everyone along our travels and was a total angel for the whole trip.

Did I say total angel?

Let me rephrase that.

His molars are still wreaking havoc on all of us. Over the course of the week, 3 out of 4 popped through the skin, and he had/has the bloody gums and lots of angry tantrums to prove it. We’re still going through quite a rough patch in terms of sleep (I haven’t slept past 4:30 or 5:00am in nearly two months), but I’m holding out hope that once these teeth finally make it all the way through, we can go back to normal. Please? PLEASE?!

Thank goodness for cousins, though. Owen was distracted and his giggly little self most of the time (when he wasn’t trying to sleep).

Hope you had a wonderful week and had time to appreciate all that you are thankful for.

  1. Uh, you forgot to talk about how that turkey tasted! I love the idea of a bacon lattice!

Once the molars are out, life goes back to normal. Until the next molars. 🙂

  2. ^^ agree with kara, bacon makes everything better but i’ve never had it on turkey!!

loved your pics of the week!!

  3. Looks like a great celebration, despite those pesky molars. We had two pop through over the holiday weekend, too. The teeth have amazing timing, don’t they??

  4. lol, I was about to be a hater about O being a perfect angel, as my daughter was an angel 50% of the time during our travels (husband: 50% is good! me: 50% is failing)
Love the pic of the two of you! good luck with the sleep!

  5. Darn molars. We popped out our first tooth over the holiday weekend too. It looks like everyone had a great time!
